Library Closed July 3 & 4

The Shenandoah Public Library will be closed July 3 & 4 in observance of Independence Day. No items should be due on these days, and only books may be returned in the outside drop box. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

Creative Feelings - Project Recovery Iowa - Wed.

This week the Be Creative @ your library Summer Reading Program event is "Creative Feelings" with Project Recovery Iowa. Their team will come and talk to kids about dealing with emergency situations and expressing their fears and emotions through art. We hope to see you at 1 pm on Wed., July 1.

Art GalleRead Opening Event - June 30, 4-6

Come one, come all! The Art GalleRead Teen Art Gallery is having it's opening event on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 4-6. Everyone can enjoy snacks, see the art, chat with the artists, and vote for the people's choice awards. Have some fun, and encourage our local teen artists!

Tie Dye at the Library!

Monday, June 29, 2009 from 10 am to noon, stop by the children's department of the the Shenandoah Public Library to tie dye. Bring your own white t-shirt or other white fabric and see what they'll become! Wear old clothes to Be creative @ your library.

Last Call for Teen Art!

Any teens wanting to submit art for the Art GalleRead Teen Art gallery must bring it in by 6 pm on Monday, June 29. All art must be accompanied by a signed submission form. You can find guidelines on the art and submission forms on the teen page or by stopping by the library.

Persian Pickle Club - Tonight!

At 7 pm tonight, June 25, 2009, the Shenandoah Public Library is hosting a book discussion on the Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas, in conjunction with our 1930's oral history project this summer. Meet in the North Room of the library to find out what all the buzz is about!

Mad Mixture at the Summer Reading Program

On Wednesday, June 24th at 1:00 pm, the Grout Science Museum will be bringing us their "Mad Mixture" program. Kids of all ages are invited to see their exciting presentation, which we believe may involve giant kid-sized bubbles! It happened one... Friday afternoon

This week the Must-See Movie is on Friday. At 1 pm, come to the Shendandoah Public Library to see the classic film "It Happened One Night" with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. The movie will be on our big screen and is free and open to the public, and popcorn will be provided!

Magic Thursday at the Library

Thursday, June 18th at the Shenandoah Public Library - Magician Rick Eugene will perform illusions and sleight of hand to the amazement of kids of all ages. The Magic show will begin at 1 pm. Then at 3 pm, Rick Eugene will teach a magic class open to older kids and teens (primarily going into 5th grade and above). To join the lesson, you need to sign up in advance and pay the $2 materials fee, which covers all the things you'll get to take home to amaze your families and friends. Stop in this Thursday to see something magical at your library!
